Q: What is this Nuclear Winter project anyway?
A: The Project is toying with an idea of a person that tries to survive in the harsh reality of a nuclear winter. The person is alone in the bitter coldness trying to find other survivors and permanent shelter. The ultimate goal for the project is to be a good illustrated story, nothing more. In no way is the project a statement about nuclear weapons or global politics. Nuclear Winter tries to be a so called "creative" project.
Q: Is a nuclear winter actually possible?
A: Nuclear winter is one of the scientific theories that is considered a possible result after a major nuclear explosion. You can read an article about nuclear winter theory (opens to new window) on Wikipedia.
Q: Is the project still expanding or is this it?
A: Project is currently completed. If feedback or suggestions of new additional pages to the story are received they will be considered to be included. Feedback can be left via email to fallout <cattail> nuclearwinter <punctuationmark> eu. Or simply by scrawling to the wall.
Q: Why doesn't the project have any sounds to enhance the ambiance?
A: I did consider including sounds when I was creating the project but making sounds to play correctly in different browsers and operating systems is extremely challenging. Flash technology would be the best option but so far I have been unsuccessful in finding a very minimalistic flash audio controls and as I do not own Flash software I cannot create one myself. In computers that don't have or support flash player it would also cause warnings or broken icons on the screen so it would not be the optimal solution either. If you possess a great solution to the issue, email me or scrawl the wall.
Q: Who is the author?
A: You may read more about the person who build the project from his personal site at www.Jarmake.com/english.
Q: What is the recommended browser?
A: Site looks best when viewed with Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 2+ and Opera 9.2+ (tested).
Google Chrome and any other CSS2 capable new browser should display the site also quite well.
IE 5.5 and other older browsers with no full CSS2 support will most likely not show all the pages purely as intented. Javascript should be enabled for the frontpage.
